BIRD  FEEDER  EVOLUTION

Hi everyone!

How are you all? As always I pray that you are in good health and that you are feeding your spiritual life with the things of God. One of the best ways I have recently fed my walk with Jesus is by reading “The Forgotten Way”. Reading it, I have realized just how much I have forgotten about the simple Truth and understanding of the holy scriptures. I recommend it to all my readers!

So speaking of feeding, I just read an article that secular scientists now believe feeding birds from bird feeders is

causing them to evolve. Yes, that’s right, they believe that feeding birds from a bird feeder causes them to evolve. Heres’s how…

A recent study was conducted in the United Kingdom because roughly half of the population participates in feeding wild birds from their backyards, and another in the Netherlands. “This new research, part of a long-term study conducted by the University of Oxford’s Department of Zoology, focused on several populations of great tits (Parus major), a small bird species. One population was found in Wytham Woods, in the

UK, the others in Oosterhout and Veluwe, in the Netherlands.” Researchers studied the genetic variations of 3,000 plus individuals and found a genetic divergence between these backyard birds and their more wild relatives living in the Netherlands. The backyard feeder birds now have longer beaks. In additions museum specimens of this animal reveal that these earlier living wild birds had shorter beaks too. 

The conclusion? The UK great tits have evolved, in just a few decades, to longer beaks so they can reach the seeds housed in bird feeders easier. But is this really evolution? “God, in his wisdom, created each (animal) kind with a vast amount of genetic diversity so organisms could adapt in a rapidly changing world. Evolution requires the addition of brand-new genetic information, something that has never been observed. But in a creation model, this information was there from the very beginning and organisms have been losing and reshuffling this information since creation and especially since the Flood. This model explains what we observe in finches, great tits, and more.These great tits are simply reflecting the diversity in beak size that God built into their genome. But these small birds will never turn into something else—they will always reproduce according to their kind, just as we would expect starting with Genesis.”²

Beak size has often been utilized to “prove” evolution (remember Darwin’s finches?). The evidence is the same for all to look at, it’s the interpretation that is different. Either believe the Holy Bible is the truth, cover to cover, word for word. Or believe in fallible man’s texts. Believe in the One who created these animals or believe in the ones who study them.
