ANGELS
EMOTIONS AND INTELLEGENCE
Hey everyone! What has been happening this past week in all your lives? I have been super busy as all of you know and sometimes I wonder how smart I’ve been to get my plate so full! It frustrates me at the same time I’m glad to be helping.
So did you ever wonder if angels had feelings? Well, scripture reveals that they do! Luke 15:10 states “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” First Peter 1:12 tells us “To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.” Also John 8:44 speaks of the devil’s desires “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” And then in
Revelations 12:12 the devil, who is a fallen angel, has great wrath. If angels can have desires, joy and wrath, I’m sure they are capable of other emotions too. Angels also have creativity. In Revelation 5:8-10 angels from the heavenly hosts played harps and sang a new song. Job 38:7 tells us that the morning stars (angels) sang for joy at the creation.
Angels can make choices too and not all of them are good. Lucifer (an arch angel) for example let pride get the better of him (Jude 1:6) and defied the Creator. One third of the angels choose to follow him and Lucifer became known as satan or the devil. I’ve always wondered why the wisdom that angels possess didn’t steer Lucifer away from such a poor decision. And after the angels that sinned and fell from God’s grace, “the
serpent, which was influenced by Satan, deceived Eve in Genesis 3, there was considerable intellectual ability, even being termed “clever/cunning.” Satan, referring to Job in Job 1:9–11 and Job 2:4–5, used logic to say that Job would turn if he lost his possessions and became diseased. (Many people in such a situation probably would have turned from God, but God knew Job would not.)”1 This demonstrates amazing intellectual abilities. Oh you didn’t know angels could be wise? Second Samuel 14:20 says, “To bring about this change of affairs your servant Joab has done this thing; but my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that is in the earth.” That is a lot of wisdom!
And angels have the intelligence to lead men (Exodus 32:34), to fight men (and the intelligence to know the difference) (Exodus 23:23, 33:2), redeem men (Gen 48:16), preach (Galatians 1:8), and speak in tongues (Acts 13:1). They can also give instructions (Acts 8:26) and warning (Acts 10:22), and have enough knowledge/wisdom to ordain/make appointments.
It seems that angels are smart, emotional and can do pretty much what we can. So what makes them different? Are there things angels can do that we can’t?
The answer is yes! Stay tuned for next week and find out!
God bless and take care,
Willow Dressel
