Part II

G’day my friends! How’s it going? What did you do this last week? I hope you have been able to spend lots of time with our Lord Jesus. I have been trying to spend more time with him, not just to pray but also to listen. The results are a deeper friendship, understanding and faith in the Light. I have never felt so alive. I am so grateful! 

Speaking of life, last week we went over the first of three questions that have brought many in the secular scientific community to undergo a change of thought in regard to God. The three questions are; 1) the universe had a one-time beginning, (we went over that last week) 2) the universe is just right for life, and 3) DNA coding reveals intelligence.

Today we will address the question of how did the universe become just right for life. 

As scientists delve deeper in the realm of science and all its intricate parts most can agree that the universe if uniquely fine-tuned for life. Physicists have calculated that in order for life to exist, gravity and the other laws of physics that govern our universe need to be complexly tuned just right or our universe couldn’t exist. For example, if the expansion rate of the universe had been slightly weaker, gravity would have pulled all matter

back into a ‘big crunch’. Stephen Hawking said “If the rate of expansion on second after the ‘big bang’ had been smaller by even one part in a hundred thousand-million-million, the universe would have re-collapsed before it ever reached its present size.” And looking at the other side, if the initial expansion rate had been a tiny fraction greater than it was, all the stars, planets and galaxies could never have formed, and life couldn’t have happened.

Biologists have calculated a long time ago that in order for life to exist, the conditions in our solar system and planet earth must be just right. All life needs an atmosphere of oxygen to breathe and without oxygen water couldn’t exist, without water nothing could survive. But it’s not just oxygen. Elements such as hydrogen, nitrogen, sodium, carbon, calcium and phosphorus amongst others are essential for life as is the size, temperature, relative proximity and chemical makeup of our planet, sun, and moon. Many, many other conditions in our universe and planet must be exquisitely fine-tuned in order for life to have happened and to be sustained. 

Atheist and agnostic scientists are unable to explain these “coincidences”. Stephen Hawking is a well known agnostic,

yet he writes, “The remarkable fact is that these numbers seem to have been very finely adjusted to make possible the development of life.” Interesting that Stephen Hawking would come to such a conclusion though he may be attributing it to chance. However, to get life from a “big bang” defies the law of probability, the odds being less than one chance in a trillion to the 12th power. It would be like one person winning over a thousand consecutive mega-million dollar lotteries after purchasing only one ticket each time. It would have to be rigged by someone working at the lottery. Face it that is what everyone would think. And many scientists are coming to the same conclusion about the universe; that Someone behind the scenes designed and

created it because it is impossible for that to happen on its own.

George Greenstein, an agnostic astronomer, has asked the ultimate question, “Is it possible that suddenly, without intending to, we have stumbled upon the scientific proof of the existence of a Supreme Being?” Sadly, even though Mr. Greenstein has asked this profound question he still maintains his faith in science to explain our origins. 

Atheist British astrophysicist Paul Davis summed it up well, “It is almost as if someone has fine-tuned nature’s numbers to make the impression of design overwhelming.” The evidence of God’s fingerprints are overwhelming!
